University of Bern

Are you a graduate student in Political Sciences? This is an excellent opportunity to study for a semester or a year in Bern, Switzerland. Bern, the Swiss capital, is located near the center of the country and just north of the Swiss Alps in the German speaking part of Switzerland; it is the fourth most populous city and is ranked among the world's top ten cities for quality of life. The University of Bern is located on Langgässe, the traditional university district adjoining the city centre.    

Courses & Credits

This is an exchange through the Center for European Studies. In order to participate students must be in the PhD program of political sciences and may enroll in courses offered as appropriate in political science at the University of Bern. More information can be obtained from the Center for European Studies.

Tuition and fees for the exchange program is equal to UNC’s rate, based on NC residency status, and will be charged to the participant’s UNC student account. Review the Budget Sheet for additional Cashier Billed Expenses and Out-of-Pocket Costs. The Study Abroad Office strongly encourages students to budget carefully for their time abroad.

Application Process

Follow these steps to apply for this program:
  1. Complete the required UNC application by clicking “Apply Now” at the top of the page. If you have not done so already, create a profile to start your application.
  2. The Study Abroad Office will review applications and nominate qualified students to the host institution.
  3. Nominated students are required to complete an application for the host institution. Follow instructions provided by the Study Abroad Advisor and make note of all deadlines.
