National University of Singapore (University Scholars)

**Only current Honors students at UNC-CH are eligible**

Enjoy high-quality education in a vibrant English-medium university in the heart of Asia! UNC-Chapel Hill is proud to offer the opportunity to study at one of the best institutions of higher learning in Asia. This exchange partners the UNC- CH Honors Program with the NUS University Scholars Programme (USP). USP aims to: Attract and develop a diverse range of talented individuals who demonstrate the potential to be leaders in intellectual, economic, cultural or social spheres in Singapore and the world; Build and nurture a close-knit and vibrant community of scholars that is committed to excellence in their diverse interests; Enable this community of scholars to be connected to the global network of scholars, through dialogues and strategic collaborations; Continuously innovate to provide an enriching and globally-oriented educational programme, aimed at stretching the students’ intellectual, leadership, and personal capacities; and provide students with the best of the world through tie-ups with world-leading innovative educational programmes.

Singapore is not just one island but a main island with over 60 surrounding islets with a population of over 3.4 million people. The main island has a total land area of about 640 square km. Singapore is the busiest port in the world and has also become one of the most important financial centres of Asia.  Singapore's strategic location, excellent facilities, fascinating cultural contrasts and tourist attractions contribute to its success as a leading destination for both business and pleasure. Students will find that Singapore has a great deal of interesting attractions, such as museums, landmarks, nature preserves, theme parks, etc. to visit. The city of Singapore is host to a very diverse society. There are four official languages - Malay, Mandarin Chinese, Tamil and English.  In keeping with its reputation as the "Garden City", Singapore is awash with lush gardens and parklands as tropical greenery carpets the landscape.  It is one of only two cities in the world to have a significant area of primary rainforest within its boundaries.

Courses & Credits

UNC-CH Honors exchange participants will be given standing as NUS-University Scholars Programme students, be assigned a USP academic faculty advisor, and have access to all USP co-curricular activities and social events.

UNC-CH Honors students will enroll in a full-time program of study from any academic department within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, the Business School, the School of Computing, and the School of Design and Environment. Enrollment in modules in the Faculty of Law and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy will be limited to those that are available to USP students.

UNC students will be required to attend at least one USP module per semester while at NUS. A list of previously approved courses for general education requirements is available (please note: inclusion of a course on this list is no guarantee that a course will be approved. Consult your Academic Advisor for more information about how courses fit into your academic plan). Please note that a 4-modular credit (MC) course at NUS is the equivalent of a three credit-hour course at UNC with the EXCEPTION of BIOL courses. Students will earn 4 UNC credit hours for BIOL approved courses only.

Courses in this program are Transfer Credit.
Transfer Credit Courses (not taught by UNC Faculty): ACTION REQUIRED

  • You must submit the Credit Request Form to earn any credit for your time abroad.
  • You must earn the equivalent of a C or higher to earn any credit.
  • These courses will transfer back to UNC as “TREQ” credits.
