Fudan University (International Summer Session)

This program is eligible for the Phillips Ambassadors Scholarship

This program allow students to enroll in coursework through Fudan University's International Summer Session, with access to a multi-disciplinary curriculum as well as Chinese language (Mandarin) study from beginner to advanced levels. The program accommodates students with little or no Asian studies or language background, as well as advanced students. 

Fudan University was established in 1905 and is one China's top three universities, so students should expect a high standard of academics, as well as a student body representative of some of China's brightest and most dedicated students. Many of China's most important business and political leaders have pursued their degrees at Fudan University.
 

Location

Shanghai is China's largest city, and one of the world's largest and fastest-growing metropolitan areas. Although known mainly for its skyscrapers and modern architecture, Shanghai also provides visitors the opportunity to experience a more traditional side of Chinese culture. Public transportation in Shanghai is efficient and affordable, and students will have ample opportunities to explore the city and its diverse neighborhoods. 
 

Courses & Credits

Students will select from courses offered through the International Summer Session. A very wide range of courses are offered, including history, political science, foreign relations, Asian studies, economics, literature, language study, and more. Students will must enroll in at least 6 credits at Fudan in order to earn a total of 6 UNC transfer credits.   

Important note regarding language study:  The Asian Studies Department at UNC cannot guarantee credit for language courses taught at Fudan University. Credit will be determined based on the student's performance on the language placement test given after they complete the Fudan program and return to UNC.  

Courses in this program are Transfer Credit.
Transfer Credit Courses (not taught by UNC Faculty): ACTION REQUIRED
  • You must submit the Credit Request Form to earn any credit for your time abroad.
  • You must earn the equivalent of a C or higher to earn any credit.
  • These courses will transfer back to UNC as “TREQ” credits.

Housing

Students attending this program will live in Fudan University's on-campus International Student Dorms, which provide easy access to Fudan's broad range of resources and activities.

Tuition and fees for the program are set based on the host institution’s rates, and will be charged to the participant’s UNC student account. Always refer to the Budget Sheet on this page, and not the host institution’s posted rates, as it is customized for UNC students. Application Process

Follow these steps to apply for this program:
  1. Complete the required UNC application by clicking “Apply Now” at the top of the page. If you have not done so already, create a profile to start your application.
  2. Follow the instructions on your UNC application to submit the supplemental application required by the partner institution.
  3. In order to participate in the program, both the Study Abroad Office and partner institution must accept your application. Note that decision notification timelines may differ.
