Singapore is not just one island but a main island with over 60 surrounding islets with a population of over 3.4 million people. The main island has a total land area of about 640 square km. Singapore is the busiest port in the world and has also become one of the most important financial centres of Asia. Singapore's strategic location, excellent facilities, fascinating cultural contrasts and tourist attractions contribute to its success as a leading destination for both business and pleasure. Students will find that Singapore has a great deal of interesting attractions, such as museums, landmarks, nature preserves, theme parks, etc. to visit. The city of Singapore is host to a very diverse society. There are four official languages - Malay, Mandarin Chinese, Tamil and English. In keeping with its reputation as the "Garden City", Singapore is awash with lush gardens and parklands as tropical greenery carpets the landscape. It is one of only two cities in the world to have a significant area of primary rainforest within its boundaries.
